5 tips to be more organized

15 May 2016
Published:15 mai 2016 : by http://livingeneva.com/5-tips-to-be-more-organized-by-virginie-dor-professional-organizer/ 5 tips to be more organized To be honest with you, I had NO idea what a professional organizer was or what he/she did. Therefore I was very interested to meet Virginie Dor, the proud owner of Space-of-Mine an owner operated business specialized in residential organizing servicing Vaud, Geneva, Neuchatel and everywhere in between! A little more about Virginie: Virginie has traveled/lived all around the world and has a huge experience in Professional Organizing! She is member of theNational Association of Professional Organizers and has an natural intuition to do what she does. Therefore, I asked her to share some of her well kept secrets on how to keep a space organized! A little more about Space of Mine: Specialized in residential organizing, they are committed to help individuals better their lives, take control of their surroundings and time by customizing systems and processes using organizing principles. They are experts in clutter control, work flow, space planning and time management. They provide full organizing services including personal shopping, pick-up, delivery, assembling and disposal of goods and furniture. 5  Simple tips to be more organized (and stay more organized) 1.- Use your Logic We went through my house and saw an obvious (yet I hadn’t realized) thing to do. I could not arrange my hand bags, because a really big one did not fit. Therefore we switched the height of the shelves and TADA! Now I can arrange by bags, my clutches are in the bottom because it is easier to grab. Before & After of my Bags Virginie: “There are no rules; you have to think outside the box! I personally store my handbags in the kitchen for example” 2.- Avoid EXTRA steps Do you have a pile of papers on top of your desk all the time? This is probably because it takes you 72513 steps to file it, put it in the right place and contain it. The things that you do all the time try to avoid steps and have open places to put them: To Do, Done, In Process.Use stackable trays or wall mounted systems to save space as well. Virginie: “I often recommend using hanging file folder systems and vertical boxes rather than binders to file paperwork. It is quick, practical, simple and allows for an easy retrieval” 3.- SEE Clearly Try to organize your thing in clear boxes, bins, zip-lock bags and opt for open shelving. It is easier to be organized when you can see what‘s inside and also it is much much easier to find! Virginie: “I like to keep things like linen, duvet covers or kid’s toys in clear plastic bags or boxes; this makes it easier to store, stack and find!” 4.- Fold and arrange smartly I have heard that it is easier to fold vertically, but I had never had the time to test it. Now that I did, I see that it is much easier to keep it organized and also it saves time when I am looking for

Working with Virginie is a life changing experience

7 March 2016
Freedom from anxiety and stress and is what you will experience after working with Virginie. We moved numerous times in the last 12 years and continued to just move boxes of “stuff” along with us. Something had to be done and that was to make an appointment with Virginie. Virginie and her partner arrived right on time for our appointment and we attacked the cave and the boxes and the mementos and all of that “stuff”. In just a few hours I could see the floor again and everything was neatly organized, labelled and/or donated. The feeling of control over my “stuff” was incredible and I could not have done this without the help of Virginie. After this cave transformation we booked another day to set up a filing system. Again, Virginie’s attention to detail while keeping things simple, shaped up years of paperwork into neat files. Working with Virginie is a life changing experience. She is honest, hard-working, positive, professional and efficient. I can highly recommend her and encourage you to tackle your organizational stresses with Virginie as your right hand girl, you will be glad you did. -Lorretta C., Pully

She transformed a closet into an actual bedroom

24 February 2016
My place is organized, but I needed help with arranging furniture, and making my place look cleaner. Virginie came over, listened to my concerns, and before I knew it she was elbow deep in my clutter (I thought I was clutter-free!). She helped me organize my daughter’s room and transformed it from looking like it was the size of a closet to the size of an actual bedroom. She spent every minute organizing things. I love Virginie (I only met her once – is it too soon to say that?)! She focused on using things I already had and reused them in ways that I would have never thought of. I have previously used an interior decorator, and this experience with Virginie was night and day.  Virginie spent every moment working hands on, rearranging, etc. Meanwhile my interior decorator only gave me ideas and a shopping list. My daughter’s bedroom now looks like a room out of a magazine.  I cannot stop talking about it! I am so so so so happy with the outcome! Could not imagine how my experience could have been better.  Thank you so much Virginie! ~ Heidi W. YELP

I would recommend her to all of my friends and clients

24 February 2016
WooHooooo! If I could put ten stars I would.  Virginie is so smart and creative in her approach to organization. She implements ideas that work that I wish I would have thought of for myself years ago. She can do everything from organize your closet, kitchen, and other living spaces, to help you get ready for a move in or a move out. Virginie helped me organize and

Virginie’s quickness, efficiency and organizing skills cut my stress in half

24 February 2016
I recently purchased a house and was having lots of anxiety about moving as I had multiple boxes of stuff  from 10yrs ago that my parents had dumped on my, all my college stuff and much more. Virginie was great she came to help me organize packing, which she did so quick and efficiently. She is a pleasure to work with and direct in controlling a minor hoarder like me. Once moved she came to help me organize, unpack, still helping me get rid of unneeded things. She was wonderful, so helpful. With three bedrooms, office, walk in pantry and kids play room to organize. I was so grateful to have her referred to me. Virginie’s quickness ,efficiently and organizing skills cut my stress in half, not to mention her impeccable eye for great design was so helpful.  Now settled in the new house I feel organized, de-cluttered, and trendy with design. ~ Nicole H. 24 February 2016
Virginie is a powerhouse of organization!!! I knew I needed to get organized, but had NO idea how EVERYTHING can be organized ! Virginie got to the heart of the problems quickly and offered suggestions, solutions, and options ! The whole session was SO UPLIFTING !! It boosted my self-esteem!  These are things I can do, change, and implement ! Now I look at everything with an eye to how to make it more streamlined, efficient, easier, neater, and more organized. I am working to implement the ideas she gave me and loving the ones I have accomplished !! I was so overwhelmed before, but now I am feeling empowered ! I didn’t even know where to start

24 February 2016
Virginie came over and worked her magic in our home recently and I cannot possibly give enough compliments to do justice to her service ! Our guest bedroom had been turned into a storage room when my parents sold their home and I needed to clear out my childhood bedroom. There were boxes from floor to ceiling and I didn’t even know where to start. Virginie worked with us to go through every box and provided practical, easy and inexpensive methods of organization for the whole mess. She is not only professional, but also very kind, hard working and patient. Virginie took the stress out of the job and broke it down into manageable tasks that were so rewarding to accomplish. It is very clear that she enjoys her work. 🙂 We were so happy with her work that Virginie has come over to help reorganize our closets, kitchen and pantry. Virginie is amazing !!!!!!!!! ~ Deanna B. I can find everything now !

24 February 2016
I had Virginie from Space of Mine organize my kitchen and my pantry. The rest of my house is really organized, but my small galley kitchen and the attached pantry with pocket door that’s always open was a massive eyesore. I just couldn’t seem to make it work on my own. Virginie was amazing, and a work horse! I thought I was a super hard worker but she has me beat. She helped me work within my budget using very inexpensive organizers for the closed cabinets, then buying some nice pieces for the visible space that made it look really classy without breaking the bank. She found 2 matching stainless steel trash cans (one for recycle, one for trash) that fit side by side and the exact height of raised area/ shelf behind them so I can utilize all the space. A beautiful cloth lined wicker basket for dishtowels, and my favorite, 2 side by side spice racks to go under a high cabinet so all my spices and vinegars/olive oils are lined up at fingertip reach and easy to grab everything when I cook. She organized all my kitchen drawers and cabinets. She got me two beautiful stainless steel containers for spatula’s, spoons, tongs, etc to go next to the stove at hands reach when I’m cooking. I used to hate my kitchen and my pantry which was an avalanche waiting to happen. Now, all like items are stored together, easy to find, and simple to keep that way. I was so happy, I had her do my bathroom too! Now if I need a band-aid, I have a first aid container to go to. A hair product bin, a drawer for anything regarding teeth/mouth, a drawer for make-up, a drawer for travel size toiletries when I fly…the list goes on and on. I can find everything now, and no more things falling over or stress when I’m looking for something. Time and money well spent, I’m very picky and I would definitely recommend Space of Mine for anyone looking to get more organized. ~ Deborah K. YELP

January is Get Organized (GO) Month!

7 January 2016
Published: 06 January 2016 by http://www.knowitall.ch/ By Virginie Dor, Space of Mine January is Get Organized (GO) Month!   According to research published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, organizing is the second-most popular New-Year’s resolution, just after losing weight! Thinking back on it, it seemed to me that organizing your tangible resources, your time, your thoughts, and your energy is the key to reaching all of our other resolutions too. It is no coincidence that the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) has named January National Get Organized month. Still not convinced? According to a NAPO public survey, 82% of people believe that if they were more organized, their quality of life would improve. So here are a few tips to get 2016 off to a great start:  1. Identify the Benefits Getting Organized Can Have in YOUR Life More space, more money, more time to do the things that matter most in your life…? How about peace of mind, a greater sense of control, lower stress level, better productivity, and increased focus?     2. Decide Where to Start Choose to tackle the area that causes you the greatest stress. Is it the stack of mail spilling over your kitchen table, or your overstuffed garage? Big or small, start with what will make the biggest impact in your daily life. Now that you know where to start, literally write out in your calendar the exact times and dates you will dedicate to getting it done.     3. Break It Down Break down the bigger tasks into manageable projects you can accomplish in 15 to 60 minutes max; and time yourself. As you work, consciously remind yourself that ”all you need to do right now is finish this one space” or “all you need to do for the next 15 minutes is… sort clothing by type.”         4. Use the SIMPLE Method To keep progressing in the right direction and avoid overthinking, use the SIMPLE acronym: S ort I dentify what to keep M ake a home for it P ut it in containers L abel it E stablish a routine   5. Gather Likes with Likes Gather all of your like items together and evaluate them as a group. It’s a lot easier to make decisions on what can go when you’re actually looking at how many you have of each item. Start with broad categories (such as ‘hair’ when organizing your bathroom); and once the first sorting is done, subdivide further into specific categories (hairpins and clips, brushes, products, etc.) And finally, find the right container for it (for example, Ziplocs for small bathroom items.)     6. Put It Where You Use It Being organized is often more about thinking outside the box and fine tuning one’s daily routines than simply finding a home for everything. In order to STAY organized, you will need to find systems that are functional and easy to maintain. Putting things back where they belong should take no more
